Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece With: Emma Black (13th)
Emma Black learned her craft as a busker in Amsterdam and Berlin, living on the streets of major European cities, she started to describe life in the 'under belly of society' through song. After turning down major record deals with her band The Immigrants in the mid-nineties she continued living on the edges of society, in a two-wheeled catering truck near Manchester, down the Llyn peninsular in Wales growing vegetables and traveling the road. In that time she alternated music as a career with conservation work (something she is still dedicated to) playing occasional intimate shows to initiates and converts around Europe rather than pursuing the mainstream. Over the next ten or so years, though seldom performing live, she built herself a loyal following who have stuck with the evolving sound and direction that led her to record her debut album in 2007 " Where Dark Horses Roam" Emma has been out playing songs from the album and a whole bunch of new material for the last 18 months with four national tours in the Netherlands and performances across the UK. Over the years, Emma has opened up for a diverse range of acts including The Indigo Girls at the Boardwalk in Manchester...Salif Keetah at the Royal Court, Liverpool..Hugh Masekla at The Grand Clapham...and in more recent years, The Zombies and Dr Feelgood in Zaandam Netherlands and Nancy Kerr and James Fagan at Cambridge Folk Club

    Tuesday Night Acoustic Session (2nd)
Our regular and ever popular Tuesday night acoustic evening from 9pm onwards

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece with: Steve O'Connor!!!!!! (6th)
We are immensely proud and honored to have Steve O'Connor play for us here at Folk Rebirth. He's a big name artist who hasn't played at a pub for years, he normally plays big folk festivals and and along side major artists, but he just couldn't resist our offer to play at the Fleece!! His album "Roll The Dice" and the single "Hail Caledonia" are currently enjoying regular airplay on radio stations across the UK, extensively in Scotland, in the USA and Italy. Steve O'Connor was born and raised in Liverpool, a cultural, charismatic city with a rich and famed musical heritage. Steve has travelled extensively in his life, which has helped him to understand and appreciate the diverse cultures and traditions of the world. With musical influences such as Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, the Eagles and, of course, The Beatles - to name but a few - this held him in good stead for the musical journey that lay ahead. It wasn't until he moved to the highlands of Scotland, however, that his natural gift for song-writing began to manifest. This ancient land steeped in a music legacy all its own provided inspiration, both visual and spiritual. It was here that Steve taught himself to play guitar and subsequently write his own music and lyrics. After several fruitful and memorable years in Scotland, he returned to Liverpool where he continued to nurture his talent for song writing. His words and melodies captivate and enchant, while his warm and genial manner, coupled with his native Liverpool wit, engage his audiences in live performance. He has learned his craft well. While Steve takes his musical influences from both sides of the Atlantic, he remains a contemporary singer-songwriter with his own style.

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece With: Garry Maginnis (13th)
Irish tinged vocals with heartfelt lyrics. More than another boring singer songwriter the songs show a sense of hope in dark times and a sense of honesty in a cruel world. These emotions are brought to life through the poetic lyrics. though either solo or with the band the songs remain true to themselves. Originally from rural ireland (ISLANDMOYLE to be exact) Gary moved to liverpool in 2005 and began singing his songs to different crowds across the north west of england. 2007 saw Gary's song Light up the nigh listed as a "Song of our times" on neil young's official website. Enjoying himself every step of the way no matter where he may end up.

    Tuesday Night Acoustic Session (16th)
Our regular and ever popular Tuesday night acoustic evening from 9pm onwards

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece with: Laney Murphy (20th)
Humble, unassuming and engaging, Laney Murphy sings songs about urban life, self-deprecation, love, and naming and shaming the people she see on the streets in her daily life. It's observational, heartfelt stuff. Having played around Liverpool for a number of years under various guises, Murphy has now begun to forge her own sound around new band members. Harnessing influences from as far afield as Guyana and er, Huyton, Murphy then blends this with her love of the likes of Al Green, Bill Withers and Aretha Franklin, resulting in a curiously intimate mix of ska and soul.

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece with: Jody Cooper (17th)
What Jody says about him self:
I've been into music for as long as I can remember, and started writing songs when I was 14. First song: "Attitudes" was an innocent, honest look at what I thought of the way people can be. Umpteen years and songs have passed since then but I'd like to think I haven't lost that honesty.
Started dabbling in piano from a young age but my first instrument was the violin. That didn't last (too hard an instrument and my heart wasn't in it!). Eventually got a keyboard (we couldn't afford a piano) and from a suggestion from a friend decided to have a go at songwriting. From then on I wrote at a phenomenal rate, writing about anything and everything.
Joined my first band when I was 16 and started doing gigs soon after. When I finished school I went off to college to study music, where among other things I learnt about recording and stagecraft. After college I joined my first semi-professional band called "Circle 6", and got a taste for it as we developed a local following doing a mixture of covers and originals. In 1996 I formed a two piece called "Smile" and the following year as a result of the success of this I decided to turn professional. I decided I wanted to explore other avenues and in late '97 I joined a 9 piece Pink Floyd tribute band with backing singers, large scale sound rig and lighting show. After 18 months of rigourous rehearsals, gigging and internal disputes we decided to go our separate ways. It was during this period that I also decided to go solo for the first time.

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece with: Michelle Strahan (1st)
A personal favorite of mine! Michelle is only 18 yet has already played in London's legendary Ronnie Scotts twice! and thats Just the beginning!
She has played at Liverpool's Mathew Street Festival, was part of the Capital of culture promotion, was also asked to sing at the celebration and commemoration of John Lennon’s life on his 25th anniversary, performed live on BBC radio Merseyside a couple of times, has also performed live on BBC 7’s ‘Big Toe Radio Show’, played at the St Helens Eclectica festival before acts such as Echo and the Bunnymen, also played at Creamfields Festival and to top it all off played at Liverpool’s rather huge Echo arena after reaching the final of ‘Now That’s What We Call Culture’.
She is truly magnificent and I doubt she will be playing pubs for very long so catch her here while you can!

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece With Bernadette O'Grady (8th)
Bernadette O'Grady is a singer-songwriter from North Ireland, who now lives in West Wales. She began performing and writing songs, whilst living in New York, influenced at the time by both Irish and American artists. Her material ranges from contemporary storytelling songs to more reflective and soulful songs, performed with honest emotion. Bernadette gave a highly entertaining interview, and beautiful live performance, on The Evening Show (BBC Radio Wales). Her own song 'Dead Man's Shoes' and her delightful cover version of Bob Dylan's 'Don't Think Twice' have also received airplay on the show. Other live performances have included playing at Aberystwyth Arts Centre (The Acoustic Platform / RT Productions), Tenby Folk Festival, Cwmaman Music Festival, Northamptonshire's Kontra Roots Club, Oxjam Brecon, and London's premier acoustic night, 'On Stage at The Halo'. Recently, Bernadette gave an exquisite ninety-minute headline performance of her songs at Soundbites, Llanidloes. One of her songs was featured in the independent Irish film, 'Just Another Miracle', and broadcast as part of UTV's 50th Anniversary Short Film Festival.

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece With Jess childs (15th)
Jess Childs has been singing since she was a little girl, surrounded by music in the Mid Wales farmhouse she grew up in. Introduced to guitar and piano by their mother, Jess and her two brothers were all keen musicians and artists throughout their early years. Jess wrote her first song 'Alright' when she was fourteen, in a music lesson at school, and performed it in a concert the same day. Since then she has received good reception for her writing and performances, appearing with only her guitar for support at various venues in and around her native Mid Wales, and further afield in South Wales and Herefordshire. She has featured in the Brecon Fringe Festival line-up during Brecon Jazz Festival for some years, performing in the grounds of Brecon Cathedral and the 'A Frame' art gallery, and also supported country singer and Radio 2's Bob Harris favourite Angie Palmer during her UK tour at Brecon's Theatr Brycheiniog. Jess has also appeared at The Workhouse Festival in Llanfyllin, Hay-on-Wye's Literary's Fringe Festival, at Abersytwyth Arts Centre’s MidMad Festival and acoustic platform. 2009 will see her and guitarist Julian Lewis record new material and carry on gigging at venues across Wales and the Midlands, including Hereford’s The Black Lion as a guest of local favourite Lou Richardson and NRG Bar in Neath.

Folk Rebirth @ The Fleece With Rachel Dunn (29th)
From Liverpool Her first time playing live was April of this year in the company of established local musicians Alister Said and Rob Clarke. With support and encouragement from local writer and poet Amanda De Angeles, who compared her voice to "delicate antique lace," She made the decision to perform in local acoustic events. Oxjam at 3345, live radio performances on Radio Merseyside and Radio Hope, First Fridays at The Mocha Lounge, Prescot Summer Festival, The Egg Cafe, Mochacoustic, and most recently, Catacoustic UK at The Vic in Woolton, have provided her with the incentive to carry on performing live. She say's: My music has received not only local and national interest, but international as well. I have been featured on Sher Delight's Home Grown Radio in New Jersey, Adam Waltemire's Pop Garden Radio in Florida, Jann Turner's 'Liverpool Zone' on Rockland World Radio in New York, KCR's The Sound Garden hosted by Tracy Morgan in Knowsley, and Graham Holland's 'It's A Frog's Life' Podcast Liverpool's Got Talent Show 61.
