THE GOLDEN FLEECE INN
TAFARN Y CNU AUR
REAL ALE PUB & KITCHEN WITH ACCOMMODATION
We are located in a beautiful part of the world which is full of natures beauty, we are passionate about the environment and we are making every attempt to cut our carbon foot print. As our own commitment to the environment here are just a few of the extensive steps we have taken:
Energy
We have installed automatic sensors which operate lighting in areas that do not necisarily need constant lighting such as store rooms and bathrooms etc. All of our lighting is being changed over to LED bulbs cutting our energy usage.
Recycling
We recycle waste food, cardboard, plastics and glass. We have also composted all the soil needed for this years display of flowers on the front of our building.
Produce
We are extremely conscious of how far our food travels and we have made a commitment to sourcing all of our produce locally where ever it is possible not just lowering our carbon footprint but also promoting local food and supporting the local economy. This commitment is hard work and can be extremely time consuming however we feel the end result is one to be proud of.
Meat
We source our meat from well respected local producers such as the renowned organic Rhug Estate in Corwen (just 38 miles away). The Rhug Estate supply some of the UK’s top Michelin star restaurants and their top quality produce has won numerous accolades. We purchase meat from several farms locally, and our supply changes from week to week dependant on several factors. We now provide customers with up to the minute information on where produce is sourced from. This information can be found in house on our produce board and specials menu.
Dairy
Our butter and cheeses are sourced locally from suppliers such as South Caernarfon Creamery (just 10.7 miles away) and the renowned Snowdonia cheese company. While milk and cream come from Conwy.
Fish and Shellfish
Fish and shell fish are bought locally, some of our local catches include Menai mussels and oysters picked from the Menai straits approximately just 22 miles away.
Fruit and Vegetables
We use seasonal fruit and vegetables sourcing them from as close to home as possible providing our chefs with the freshest ingredients available. At times we do have to buy from outside of Wales Normally due to a shortage of produce available however this is a rarity and we make sure they are sourced from bordering counties such as Cheshire. Information on where our fruit and vegetables have come from is soon to be detailed on our in house menus.
Our flour is soured from one of the last working water mills in Wales which was established in 1575. As the mill is run by water it has great green credentials!
Laundry
Our linen travels only 8.8 miles from our premises to the laundry who use state of the art technology to recycle water and heat. We also use traditional linen napkins so they are recycled again and again opposed to being thrown away like paper napkins are.
Chemicals
We are working closely with our chemical & toiletry suppliers to make sure we are purchasing chemicals from companies who's carbon foot prints are as small as possible.
Snacks
Our crisps are supplied by Jones who use only welsh potatoes mainly from Anglesey and the Llyn, the potatoes are grown naturally with only the rain acting as irrigation.
